Six month check up

With Aaron we've gone from this:

To this:

He's was born weighing 5 lbs 15 oz (and dropped to 5 lbs 9 oz) and now he's a whopping 18 lbs 3 oz and 27 1/4 inches long. And he now has two teeth!

And Stella has gone from this:

To this:

She was 6 lbs 4 oz at birth (dropping down to 5 lbs 11 oz). She's now 17 lbs 3 oz and 26 in long. I wonder how long they'll be this chubby. Poor Stella still hasn't gotten her tooth out of her gums yet and her brother went and got another one in the interim. She is not pleased.

MIA

Sorry we've been MIA but the Barnharts have been in The Big Easy. David had to get some backup footage/interviews so we all went with him. The grandparents were kind enough to join us so the babies and I could have fun while daddy worked.

I know this may come as a shock to most of you but the French Quarted was not designed with children in strollers in mind. Why that didn't occur to me I haven't the foggiest idea. It's not like I haven't been there a million times.

We did have fun though - I hadn't realized how much I missed Cafe du Monde. Beignets...mmmmmm. I could have them every day.

Here's one picture. I'll load the rest when we get back from the 6 month appointment today. More shots...poor babies.

Oh, and Aaron decided that Wednesday night was a great time to sprout a tooth. I'll post a picture as soon as he lets me take one! Stella's is not far behind - i can see it just below the surface of her gums.

Happy Half Birthday!

Today is Aaron and Stella's half birthday! They are 6 months today and are living it up.

They wanted a picture together...

Aaron wanted one of just him and his cupcake...

So Stella had to have one too!

And for their first half birthdays, they got environmentally friendly diapers!

Happy half birthday Aaron and Stella!

party all the time

That Aaron has got some personality. He's only growing hair in the front and Stella is growing hair all over her head except in the front. They got new pajamas and decided to have a party. I like how he held it together then just started cutting up at the end. Stella is playing it straight.

Sigh

An Ikea employee approached me on Sunday while I waited for my friend. I was holding Stella who was looking mighty cute if I say so myself. Anyway, she came up and this was our conversation.

Ikea lady: Oh what a pretty baby! A girl right?

Me: Yes, a girl. (I guess she didn't notice that Stella was wearing a blouse)

Ikea lady: What's her name?

Me: Stella

Ikea lady: Aw, that's cute.

Pause

Ikea lady: So what country did you get her from?

End Scene

For the record, this is the first time anyone has been even a little strange about how my babies and I aren't the same color. Well the server at Dim Sum didn't really believe the babies were mine but that's another story. Now if Ikea lady had said this about Aaron I might have understood - I'd still be offended but I might have understood. But I think Stella looks like a fat baby version of me sans the tan. And I had more hair. Anyway, I basically explained her ethnic make up and left it at that. The best part is the lady never felt strange about asking.

And for the record, have black people started adopting Asian/Latino/a babies from other countries? Did I miss this on the news?

See, that's what I'd look like if i were trying to eat the cover for a shopping cart too!

our civic duty

So the babies talked us into taking them to do advance voting on Friday. Both were pretty mum about who they cast ballots for but I'm pretty sure they both voted for Obama. But I did overhear Aaron tell Stella that he'd vote for Clinton if she is the Democratic nominee.

I am so smart...

Catching up on a little reading with Dad.
