4 month check up

The babies had their doctors appointment yesterday for their 4 month check up which, of course, meant another round of shots. They got the same four they got at the two month check up which meant lots of screaming and lots of tears. The babies cried too.

They were weighed before all the shootin' up and it has finally happened: Aaron is now bigger than Stella. He weighs 15 lbs 5 oz. I was blown away and slightly horrified. The nurse put him on the scale with his diaper on and I was hoping that thing weighed at least half a pound. No dice. Stella came in at 14 lbs 13 oz. They are firmly in the 50-75th percentile in weight, height, and head size so no worries.

Aaron did have a delayed reaction to the shots and was inconsolable for about 2 hours last night. He kept looking at me as if to say, "How could you let this happen"? I felt terrible. He did finally settle down after much rocking and snuggling. Of course Stella was a rock. She's so like her mother.

I still can't find my camera so here's a picture I took of the babes in their Christmas outfits.

More Christmas

Stella and Aaron got to meet Santa on Saturday. This dude was pretty good too. Grew his own moustache and beard and everything. Of course, children were still totally freaked out by the giant white dude with all the facial hair and red velvet suit. As you can see, he did not scare our duo. I think the only thing that scares them is when you remove the bottle from their mouths.

And I've somehow misplaced my camera which is not cool.

Too much eggnog

And I thought I had take the perfect picture for the Barnhart family christmas card till I noticed that Aaron horked all over his sleeper. But it is pretty funny don't you think? I just love the expression on his face.

Christmas Part 1

We packed up the kids and headed to the Gulf Coast of Florida to meet up with family for a little early Christmas gathering. The babies were shockingly good in the car all the way down and back. I expected them to either sleep or scream the whole 6 hours but they were very chipper. Stella and Aaron both babbled happily to their dad while he tried to work. Aaron was particularly taken with his own reflection while Stella practiced turning her Fisher Price aquarium on and off with her foot. She's advanced.

We spent the weekend in a beautiful house with a beach view. The Barnharts even gave us the biggest room so we could accomodate both play yards...it was heaven. We even had a porch off our second floor bedroom that looked out onto the beach. The picture of David with his birthday cinnamon rolls was taken there. Happy Birthday David!
We dragged the kids out to the beach but it was so hot they both immediately fell asleep. We had a great weekend with the grandparents, great grandparents and great aunt and uncle!

Publix

So i took Stella with me to the grocery store yesterday. Since it's impossible to push a stroller and shop, I just trussed her up to me facing out in one of those fabric slings. I know I'm her mom but I just think she's the cutest thing ever. Apparently everyone in the grocery store felt the same way as I got stopped in pretty much every aisle with remarks like, "she's so cute" and "awwwww, how sweet". I put her in a hoodie so she was looking mighty Inuit. I mean, look at those cheeks and that rosy face. She's so adorable I want to eat her.

Milestone

The twins are 100 Days today! In Korean culture this day is celebrated since the infant, or in this case, infants have passed through what, in the past, would have been a difficult time. They've survived and based on the pictures I took over Thanksgiving, have thrived. The babies are fat. So here's to you Aaron and Stella. Happy 100 Days!!!

riding in style

We've finally graduated from the 1000 lb double snap-n-go stroller to a 14 lb peg perego. It's like the italian sports car you've always wanted but could never afford. Plus now we can transport a stroller that doesn't take up our entire trunk area.

Chubbin out at the Grandparents

It seems that the babies are putting down a nice layer of blubber to get them through the winter. Check out Stella's thighs! Oh and socks but no pants is always wrong.

what's the haps?

I currently weigh less than I did before I got pregnant.

BUT

I have a little baby belly (like a three months pregnant belly)...and it's made mostly of halloween candy. Twix, snickers, tootsie rolls and the occasional bag of peanut M&M's have done this to me.

That is all.

Oh and Dave is out of town so the twins and I are shacking up at Gma and Gpa's. There are so many contraptions in their den that it looks like a daycare center.
I'd post pictures but I have to find the cable for my computer first.

Now that is all.

Question

Why are babies digestive systems so immature? I mean I know they aren't full sized yet but does it make sense to have a stomach so tiny that if you aren't burped after eating, you automatically throw up? Or you throw up because you get a little upset? The worst is the hiccups. I swear, the most important thing these days is making sure folks burp after they eat. This drives me crazy. But the babies are so much more fun now than they were just a few weeks ago when they couldn't see very well. Aw shit, Aaron just spit up...no joke. I told you!!!

Anyway, now I can prop each babe up on a boppy and talk to them. So far, Stella is the only one who really tries to have a conversation with me but Aaron's not far behind. He mostly tries to mimic whatever your lips are doing. It's hilarious. Stella though will coo back at you if you coo at her. Her dad insists on talking to her as if she understands English when all she wants is for him to make the same noises she makes. Someday he shall learn. But Stella totally flirts with her dad. He'll ask her if she's smiling at him and she'll turn her head and bat her eyes at him. 9 weeks old and already a master manipulator. That's my girl.

It is nice that they recognize me either by my face or voice. It's awesome that they turn towards me whenever they hear my voice. It is not, however, cool when I pick them up in the middle of the night and they don't recognize me in my glasses. It freaks them out something fierce. I actually have to take the glasses off my face to feed Aaron or he just stares at me with this disturbed look on his tiny face. I take them off and then he smiles. To me it's like the whole Clark Kent/Superman thing - this is like the worse disguise ever but it gets them every time. Silly babies.

sleep, perchance to dream

At first, Aaron and Stella could totally ignore each others crying but that phase seems to be over. During the day I've worked out a way to feed them both at the same time (prop each up on a boppy) but then you have to remove both bottles so you can burp one and not have the other one choke while your hands are full. That is doable. But when they both finish and start to get drowsy you have to pick the one most likely to act up and hold them until they fall asleep. And if the other one (which I tend to call the 'good baby') decides that they no longer want to be mellow and starts crying then neither baby falls asleep. It's awesome. And by awesome I mean it sucks. Now you've got two howling babies - one in your arms and another staring at you wondering why you picked up the other baby. So you can choose to take care of one fully or do a really lame job of taking care of both. Both kids decided that naps were for suckers so they chose not to take them. I guess we can't complain as long as they keep sleeping well at night.

On another note, the babies are officially on the grid: Their social security cards came in the mail. Now if I could only get them jobs...

PUnching my bro in the head

Hooray!

Congrats to the Collins Clan as they welcome Lillian Grace to the fold. Yay, more friends for Aaron and Stella!

7 weeks and counting

So we are in week 7 with two babies and so far it's going as well as can be expected. Both babies are sleeping less and have also become more demanding when they want to be held or fed or whatever.

I have discovered that my new definition of hell on earth is the smell of the Diaper Champ with a weeks worth of two babies diapers. I swear, the smell will curl your hair.
